Wall Street's major indexes dropped more than 1% on Friday 

amid worries that the Federal Reserve would maintain its

hawkish posture for longer after consumer

spending and inflation surged in January.

The Federal Reserve's favoured inflation indicator

the personal consumption expenditures (PCE) price index,

increased by 0.6% in January after rising by 0.2% in December.
